Department Definition
The Legal department will provide Central legal services to all ECD group Companies & business lines. The Legal department is responsible for producing, reviewing and advising on all legal matters of ECD including procurement contracts, sale & purchase agreements, joint venture agreements, construction & development agreements, lease agreements and claims + litigations. The legal department will also be responsible to advise on all regulatory requirements.
Opportunity Responsibilities
The Senior Legal Counsel is a position reporting to the Director Legal.
The position supports the Legal Department and the Director Legal in all legal related matters when it comes to the establishment and running of the different lines of business of Expo City Dubai (ECD). The Senior Legal Counsel should be able to work autonomously, but should seek the Director’s input on complex matters, and issues which pose significant legal, financial and/or reputational risks to ECD.
The main responsibilities for this role include:
Operational Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, (including construction agreements, FIDIC contracts, technology agreements, software licensing agreements, sale and purchase agreements, lease agreements, collaboration agreement, partnership agreements, LOIs, license agreements, joint venture agreements, M&As, research and development, real estate contracts, NDAs, MoUs) and compliance documents (KYC, AML, etc.).
- Provide effective and timely legal advice, general oversight on legal risks and support to the business while keeping in mind ECD’s strategic and business objectives.
- Completes legal tasks and projects, respond to legal queries in an accurate, efficient and timely manner.
- Supervise and be responsible for resolving disputes and claims and adequate management of litigation or disputes between the business and its customers.
- Conduct legal research and stay abreast of regulatory developments, new laws, rules and regulations through continuous legal education, professional relation development, attending professional training, conferences, and participating in professional associations.
- Provide updates to the Department on new legislation and regulatory developments that may have an impact on ECD.
- Handle routine IP matters including trademark portfolio management, management of IP external Counsel, IP infringements, general IP advisory and disputes.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable data privacy laws and regulations; monitor and track privacy and security laws, rules, regulations and trends and provide revisions as needed to data privacy policies, procedures and agreements.
- Liaise with external law firms and relevant authorities to ensure effective resolution of legal matters.
- Ensure all requisite reports are prepared in a timely and accurate manner and make recommendations for improvements to policies and processes and streamlining the same to bring about efficiency and improve turn-around time.

Skills
8+ years of experience in core legal function with a proven working experience in a construction or real estate industry as well as:
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures, Dubai Real Estate Laws, Construction/FIDIC contracts, project delivery methods, construction law, GDPR.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Time management and high degree of professional ethics and integrity.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong planning, problem-solving and organizational skills with a ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
