The Real Estate and Delivery Division is responsible for the Design, Development and Build of all of Expo City infrastructure including Real Estate and Construction delivery for the Expo City. Working closely as an integrated team with the Project Management Consultants.
Opportunity Responsibilities
The Design Director is a strategic leader with full responsibility for the development and direction of Expo City Dubai's design. The postholder will be expected to lead projects through all stages of design.
The main responsibilities for this role include:
Strategic Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction to the planning team on the design of the Expo City site.
- Create and administer policies and practices for guiding the physical design of Expo City Dubai
- Responsible for the design activities across the Expo site
Operational Responsibilities
- Lead the team to effectively manage the delivery of the design projects
- Develop innovative solutions to problems that effectively address the social, legal and economic implications of the physical form
- Develop high level design concepts
- Work with developers, local community, architects and planners to ensure Expo City Dubai maintains its position as a clean, green, innovation-driven, human-centric city of the future
- Promote Expo City Dubai's initiatives in sustainable development through community planning, green buildings and the public realm
- Responsible for the budget preparation and spend approvals, within organisational guidelines
- Analyse complex design and other challenges and applies sound judgement
- Lead complex negotiations with clients
- Manage the overall design programme plan, ensuring it is fully integrated with the Real Estate team
People Responsibilities
- Lead the team responsibly and proficiently, providing effective line management to direct reports
- Set objectives and evaluates the performance of individual direct reports and actively manages key personnel issues
- Mentor the team about their working style, professional expertise and quality of project execution
- Ensure that all staff acquire the required skills and knowledge through appropriate learning and development programmes
- Embed culture and values by role modelling organisational behaviours through excellence, performance management, feedback and coaching
Skills
15+ years’ experience in urban design as well as:
- BA in Architecture, urban design, engineering, landscape architecture or a related field
- Fully seasoned manager, with proven ability to manage specialist functions
- Knowledge of urban planning design principles and innovative design practices
- Able to manage complex projects
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Keen interest in design and the built environment
- Good technical and artistic skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Professionally registered architect or urban planner
