Senior Manager - Design

The Senior Design Manager manages complex urban planning and design projects, oversee the development of design ideas and manage the team’s daily operations.

The main responsibilities for this role include: 

Strategic Responsibilities

• Develop creative programme and design concepts that meet the business objectives of the organisation.

Operational Responsibilities

• Survey land and buildings and make recommendations for their future development
• Work under own initiative and direction as part of a multi-skilled team
• Apply your vision to designing a variety of built spaces and landscapes
• Co-ordinate the team to effectively manage the delivery of the design projects
• Develop design plans in response to technical problems posed by a projects scope
• Provide project or task management to develop urban design and planning concepts and translate them into clear and compelling graphic images
• Prepare design briefs, scope of work, RFP documents for the planning team
• Work closely with the development department to ensure that developed plans are both financially and technically feasible
• Promote Expo City Dubai's initiatives in sustainable development through community planning, green buildings and the public realm

People Responsibilities

• Lead the team responsibly and proficiently, providing effective line management to direct reports
• Set objectives and evaluate the performance of individual direct reports and actively manage key personnel issues
• Mentor the team about their working style, professional expertise and quality of project execution
• Ensure that all staff acquire the required skills and knowledge through appropriate learning and development programmes
• Embed culture and values by role modelling organisational behaviours through excellence, performance management, feedback and coaching

8+ years experience in urban design as well as:

• BA in Architecture, urban design, engineering, landscape architecture or a related field
• Able to use AutoCAD, Photoshop, Adobe Design, Microsoft suite of products
• Able to work on complex projects prone to change
• Willingness to present to groups at all levels
• Experience in interaction with clients re. proposals, negotiation, budgets and client presentations
• Keen interest in design and the built environment
• Good technical and artistic skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Previous experience of successfully managing small teams
• Excellent design, visualisation and graphic skills
